The West Virginia Real Estate Appraiser Licensing & Certification Board is a regulatory agency created by an act of the West Virginia Legislature in 1990. Our mission is to protect the public interest by assuring that all consumers of real estate appraisal services receive such services from appraisers who are fully qualified in accordance with both Federal and State law.

These responsibilities are accomplished through a variety of efforts including testing of potential licensees, pre-license and continuing education requirements, investigation of complaints and disciplinary action against licensees as warranted .

The professional real estate appraiser estimates the value of real property (land and/or buildings). Value may be sought for any number of reasons and the appraiser’s client might be a buyer, seller, lender or public agency. A real estate appraiser license is required by anyone placing a value on real property for a fee, with only a few exceptions.
